District 4 Fall Newsletter

Dear District 4 Private Applicators,

You are now in the last year of your five-year recertification cycle. You have until December 31, 2021 to obtain the six required recertification credits in order to renew your license for the next cycle or you can take a closed-book exam at your local MSU Extension office. Remember, your local MSU Extension Agent is available to answer questions about events, licensing or pesticide issues or you can contact the MSU Pesticide Education Program.

Watch for recertification letters from the Montana Department of Agriculture in November. You will need to fill out the renewal application and pay the $60 fee to renew your license for the next five-year cycle. If you do not receive a letter contact your local Extension agent for assistance.

2021 Pesticide Waste and Disposal Program Schedule

Pesticide applicators and homeowners harboring old stocks of pesticides should be aware of the Montana Pesticide Waste Disposal Program. Delaying removal of unused pesticide products often leads to corroded containers that pose unnecessary risk towards the environmental and human health.

Pesticide waste pickup.

2021 Dates and Locations:

  • September 21: Havre
  • September 22: Great Falls
  • September 23: Lewistown
  • September 24: Bozeman

The cost for disposing pesticides is free for the first 200 pounds. For amounts that exceed 200 pounds, the cost is $1 per pound with a minimum charge of $5. Please come prepared to pay using a check made out to the Montana Department of Agriculture. Products are weighed on site. The disposal fee for pesticides containing dioxins, dioxin precursors, or any product that may require special packing at the site may incur higher fees. Please be specific about products being disposed on your registration and be prepared for products to be inspected at the site.

Registration is required by September 16th.
