Only Makerspace employees may operate the laser cutter. 

The CO2 laser cutter is a powerful tool for cutting and etching precise designs into a myriad of materials. The laser can cut through many soft materials like acrylic, wood, leather, and rubber. It can also engrave materials such as glass and powder-coated metals. For a complete list, check out the Boss Laser Settings page. The Makerspace also has rotary jigs for engraving items like water bottles!

How do I use the laser cutter?

  1.  Save your design as a svg, ai, pdf, dxf, hpgl, plt, png, jpg,  or bmp file type
  2. Put your design on a flash drive and give it to a Makerspace Employee, along with the material you want to use
  3. The employee will set up the laser and come back with a test cut/etch to ensure the final product is acceptable
  4. Your design will be cut and all material will be returned to you
