Course Description: Designed for students who are highly proficient writers, the purpose of this course is to introduce the graduate nursing student to scholarly writing process.  Students will develop and submit an article for publication.

 

Catalog Description: Designed for students who are highly proficient writers, the purpose of this course is to introduce the graduate nursing student to scholarly writing process.  Students will develop and submit an article for publication.

 

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completing this course the student will be able to:

  1. Develop an idea for publication.
  2. Plan and draft an article for publication.
  3. Synthesize and report on scholarly literature.
  4. Apply recommended revisions from student and faculty feedback to ensure appropriate fit with journal and audience.

  1. “Writing in the Sciences” - online course offered by Stanford in collaboration with Coursera [CLO 4]
  2. Manuscript – students draft and revise a manuscript synthesizing the literature on a given health-related topic [CLO 1, 2, 3, 4]
  3. Response to reviews – students receive feedback on their draft manuscript from a peer and the course instructor. They formulate a response addressing the reviewers’ comments [CLO 2 and 4]
