The Ivan Doig Center for the Study of the Lands & Peoples of the North American West is pleased to announce the call for applications for the Ivan Doig Summer Dissertation Fellowship.  The award offers a $3,000 stipend in the form of a GRA for CLS graduate students in the humanities and social sciences who are working on a dissertation related to the study of the North American West.  Only graduate students who do not have a current dissertation fellowship from MSU and who do not have a full-time GRA for the summer are eligible for this award.

Eligibility and Application Process

Students must have passed their comprehensive or qualifying exams and be engaged only on their dissertation.  Please submit as one Word or PDF document:

  1. a 500-word narrative that describes the project and its contribution to the student’s field(s) of study
  2. a list of chapters completed
  3. a detailed plan of work to be accomplished during Summer 2021
  4. a current c.v. that lists conferences and workshops attended
  5. a list of previous or pending grants and fellowships along with the amount funded
  6. Cover sheet (see below) with a signature from your faculty advisor indicating approval of the application, contact information, date of the semester in which you passed your exams, and estimated date of completion of your dissertation

A brief report detailing the work accomplished will be due by September 16, 2022 submitted to [email protected]. Failure to submit a report may jeopardize future funding opportunities from the Center. We request that students list the award on their c.v. and in any future publications that result from research funded by the Ivan Doig Center.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
