Past Professional Projects

Appalachian Basin: Marcellus and Utica (2011 - 2014)

Provided daily support to a privately held company for the assessment and acquisition of properties in New York and Ohio. Developed geospatial lease database for client. Served as on site geological support for two deep shale wells in Ohio and determined the total depth based on mud logging samples and evaluated the pay zones from geophysical logs in PETRA. Provided pipeline access and capacity review for engineering and operations issues. Conducted environmental review of properties to assess the impact of New York State’s restrictions on high volume fracturing which included examining hydrology, aquifers, water wells, public land, land cover, and subsurface geology in ArcGIS.

Coalbed Methane (CBM) Reservoir Analysis and Support, Damodar Valley, India (2009 - 2014)

Conducted assessments and wrote geologic reports on structure, stratigraphy, storage capacity, gas and water production, well and field design of vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells for the two leading CBM producers in India. Weekly consultation on geologic and engineering issues on more than 200 wells.

Coal Mine Methane Feasibility, Global Methane Initiative (2013 - 2014)

A review of coal mine geology, degasification infrastructure, and gas storage capacity for calculation of greenhouse gas emissions.

Resource Estimating Support to National Indian Entity (2013 - 2014)

Geologic support and consulting services to a national resource company in India for shale resources. Developed interactive tools in excel based on reservoir engineering and geochemistry that can use limited geological data to estimate the hydrocarbon potential.

Site Tour of Pennsylvania Energy Operations (2013)

Lead a tour of CBM and shale oil and gas wells throughout Pennsylvania for high profile clients of a private energy company from India. Coordinated with drilling contractors, engineers, and manufacturers.

CBM Feasibility and Development of Carboniferous Coal Deposits, Turkey; USTDA (2012 - 2014)

Past Academic Projects

River Incision (2009): Sediment survey of fluvial terrace soils of the James River, VA and Congaree River, SC to examine mineralogy, chemistry, and quartz grain morphology to determine relative ages of the soil and provide insight on weathering, sedimentation and river incision. Presented at GSA Southeast Section Conference (2009).

James River Watershed (2007): Analyzed streams and soils of associated lithologic units within the James River watershed to assess the degree of mineral weathering and identify geochemical regularities and differences between surface waters and shallow groundwater using an investigation in watershed scalehydrogeochemistry. Presented: Hydrogeochemical Controls On Mineral And Mass Transport in A Forested Watershed, Upper James River, VA. Szramek, Kathryn, and Fox, Nicholas R, GSA Annual Conference (2007).

Hazards of Dam Removal (2006): Assessed the hazards of dam removal due to a concern that sediment back up and its toxicity may have positive feedbacks on the geomorphology and downstream fish ecosystems, Maury River, Lexington, VA. Presented on campus Science, Society and the Arts (2006).
