Travel
Students should plan to arrive in Bozeman no later than the evening before the first day of the field course. Dormitory lodging for out-of-town students is available through the field course registration site (see below).
- By Air: Bozeman-Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) is served by Alaska Air, Allegiant, Delta, Frontier, United and other airlines. Service
is available through Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Minneapolis/St. Paul and several
other major hubs.
- By Car: Bozeman is easily accessed form Interstate I-90 or U.S. Highway 191 or 287. Students will not be permitted to drive personal vehicles on instructional days during
field camp and must arrange for parking in Bozeman. Long-term and short-term campus permits are available.
- In Bozeman:The free Streamline bus system provides transportation throughout Bozeman with connections to the nieghboring communities of Four Corners and Belgrade (near the airport). Taxi service is available between Bozeman and the airport and Uber recently started operating in the area.
Lodging
Accommodations include camping for the duration of Field Camp. Students will have access to coin operated laundry facilities and grocery stores at least once a week and on days off. See the campus map below for the class meeting location on the MSU campus.
The course fee covers camping/lodging and meals for all instructional days, but not for days-off (4-5 days during the course). Students should be prepared to pay for their own meals on non-instructional days. Prior to Field Camp, students can choose to stay in the MSU dorms, but are responsible for making their own reservations through MSU conference services online reservation system. Refer to the Conference Services website or call 406-994-3081 for more information on campus lodging.
Meals
The course fee includes meals during instructional days (30 days). Group meals will be prepared by field camp staff assisted by cook crews of students. Students will assist with meal preparation and clean-up (KP-duty) on a rotating basis. Meals for all instructional days are included in the course fee budget. Students should plan to purchase or prepare their own meals on days off (4-5 days during the course).
Meeting Time & Place
Class will convene at 8:00 AM on the first day. Be on time! the class will depart as soon as gear is loaded and will not wait for stragglers. We will meet in the parking lot behind Gaines Hall on the Montana State University campus.
