Greetings!

Welcome to the website for the Master of Science in Science Education Program.  As you investigate the program you will find that it is an ideal program for science educators to improve not only their science content knowledge, but also their teaching skills specific to science disciplines.  As a part of this program you will develop supportive networks of teaching colleagues and content experts from across the nation and internationally.

Several unique program characteristics make this program especially appealing to science educators who are seeking academic advancement.  First, the program was developed specifically for science educators.  The 30 credit program requires credits from graduate science disciplines as well as from science education courses.  Second, program students are allowed to individualize the sequence and topics of science-based course offerings in order to meet specific needs.  Science courses are taken across two or more science disciplines, depending on the candidates teaching assignment and interests.  Third, about 80% of the program is delivered at a distance which allows teachers to continue to work as they pursue an advanced degree.  And fourth, campus summer courses are strongly field and laboratory based providing actual hands on activities that can be taken into candidates’ own classrooms and teaching environments.

As a graduate of the first MSSE cohort, I can verify that the courses offered and the instructors who teach them are of top quality.  Great efforts are made to assure that the course content is applicable to the needs of science educators and their students.  Since many of the courses are offered online during the school year, candidates are able to immediately apply what they are learning to their own classrooms as they adjust the material according to their own teaching and learning environments.

As program staff, we are always eager to provide assistance, answer questions, and provide program advisement.  In fact, we like to think that candidate guidance and assistance is one of the program’s strongest characteristics.  We want you to be successful and with as little frustration as possible.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.

We look forward to working with you.
