Tuition and Fees

Special tuition rates are offered to MSSE students for both Montana residents and non-residents.

Tuition is assessed on a per credit hour basis. Rates are subject to change. Some courses may require additional lab fees. Textbooks are not included in the tuition rates. Textbooks may be purchased or ordered through the MSU Bookstore (1-800-435-1286) or may be available from other sources.

NOTE: Distributed Learning fee does not apply to MSSE CAMPUS-based courses.

Additional Graduate School fees:

  • $70 Application Fee
  • $50 New student orientation fee
  • $50 Program of Study Filing Fee
  • $20 Audit Fee (charged each time a Graduation Application is submitted)
  • $40 Commencement Fee (charged when the first Graduation Application is submitted)
  • $20 ID card fee (may be waived for online-only students after admission by emailing [email protected])

*Total does not include mandatory health insurance for students registered for 6 or more credits. (see below)


Financial Assistance

  • Federal Financial Aid
    To qualify for financial aid and loan deferment, you must (a) have admissions into a program of study and (b) register for a minimum of 6 credits per semester for campus and/or distance classes.

    Students who wish to use Veterans Assistance, please visit the Veterans Affairs website for information and forms.

Student Health Insurance

If you are registered for six or more credits in a semester, you may be billed for the MSU Student Health Insurance plan. If you would like to waive the health insurance fees, you can do so when you register for courses.
