Non-Resident Transfer Scholarships
Montana State University offers a limited number of scholarships and awards to transfer students who apply for admission. These awards are only available to students who are working on their first undergraduate degree.
Non-Resident Transfer Scholarships Fall 2023:
Non-Resident Transfer Scholarships are automatic, merit-based scholarships based upon GPA and ACT or SAT score. Award amounts will vary up to $15,000 (one-time).
To be eligible, you must complete the following as soon as possible:
- Apply for admission to Montana State University.
- Have official transcripts of all college-level work you have completed sent to MSU.
- Have your official ACT and/or SAT test scores sent to Montana State University directly
from the testing company.
- Sending ACT scores - School code 2420
- Sending SAT scores - School code 4488
It is essential to apply for admission, have transcripts and your ACT and/or SAT test scores sent to Montana State University as soon as possible. These scholarships and awards may only be available for a limited time.
These awards will be applied toward tuition only.
To receive a scholarship, you must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA AND meet the following test score requirements:

MSU aims to make a college education affordable. The FAFSA priority deadline was December 1, 2022 but we encourage all students to still apply in order to be considered for federal grants, work-study, and student and parent loans, so that we can best meet your financial needs. Need and non-need based aid programs are available. Filing the FAFSA will give you consideration for all financial assistance programs at Montana State University. Our MSU school code is 002532. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.gov.
*MSU will begin to award Non-Resident transfer scholarships in Spring 2023.
Please note that non-resident transfer students are not eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) scholarship program.
Scholarship Deferment
Please be aware that MSU new student Premier, Achievement Award, Distinction and WUE scholarships are not deferrable and will be awarded to you for a specific start term that matches the start term on your application for admission. Scholarship parameters change every year.
