Montana State University offers a limited number of scholarships and awards to transfer students who apply for admission. These awards are only available to students who are working on their first undergraduate degree.  

Non-Resident Transfer Scholarships Fall 2024:

Non-Resident Transfer Scholarships are automatic, merit-based scholarships based upon academic good standing from your previous institution. This award is worth $7,000 per year (renewable for up to 3 years).

To be eligible, you must complete the following as soon as possible:

  1. Apply for admission to Montana State University.
  2. Have official transcripts of all college-level work you have completed sent to MSU.

It is essential to apply for admission to Montana State University as soon as possible. These scholarships and awards may only be available for a limited time.

These awards will be applied toward tuition only.

To receive a scholarship, you must be in academic good standing from your previous institution.

MSU aims to make a college education affordable. The FAFSA priority deadline is February 1, 2024. We encourage all students to apply in order to be considered for federal grants, work-study, and student and parent loans, so that we can best meet your financial needs. Need and non-need based aid programs are available. Filing the FAFSA will give you consideration for all financial assistance programs at Montana State University. Our MSU school code is 002532. *MSU will begin to award Non-Resident transfer scholarships in Fall 2023.


Please note that non-resident transfer students are not eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) scholarship program.

Scholarship Deferment

Please be aware that MSU new student Premier, Achievement Award, Distinction and WUE scholarships are not deferrable and will be awarded to you for a specific start term that matches the start term on your application for admission. Scholarship parameters change every year.
