Module 1: Personal Introductions and Resource Scan

This week, you will introduce yourself to your classmates and engage in a resource scan of your school library. You will use the provided template to make sure you provide all the necessary types of information. Refer to the rubric for guidelines on expectations and assessment.

Using the attached template, document your Resource Scan in a format that works best for you. Your Resource Scan should include a discussion of your school library resources, including books, videos/DVDs, subscription databases, a school library webpage and any open access resources linked to it.

Share your Resource Scan in the Week 1 Discussion Forum. Address any thoughts for enhancing your Library/Local Resources in your Resource Scan Document.

NOTE: You might copy and paste this into a new document to complete it, and then either copy and paste the text into Week 1Discussions OR attach the document, using the subject line, “Resource Scan, LAST NAME.”

  1. List library subscription databases you might have access to, for example EBSCOhost, GALE, etc.
  2. Provide a brief description of your print and video resources, addressing such questions as does your library have adequate current print resources to serve the needs of your students and teacher colleagues?
  3. If you have a public or other library in your community that your students and teacher colleagues might potentially use, provide a brief description of databases, print resources, videos, etc., available there.
  4. List a few Open Access quality information resources that you are aware of and have even used with your students and teacher colleagues, for example NationalGeographic.com, etc.
  5. List any additional local resources, such as cultural institutions, Elders/Cultural representatives, etc.

Have fun scanning the resources in your library/community/online that are available to you, your students, and your teachers!
