Mission and Vision

STATEMENT:  To enhance the health of the people of Montana, our nation, and the global community, Montana State University, College of Nursing is committed to developing and sustaining a culture of inclusion, social justice and diversity.

VISION:  We believe that excellence at Montana State University, College of Nursing is best achieved through a culture of intellectual and personal growth that is diverse and inclusive thereby transforming lives and communities in the people’s interest.

 

MSU Goal

Create a civil, supportive and respectful environment where difference is a source of strength. (Structure, environment, resources, programs & events) 

MRJCON Goal 1

Improve 1-2 CON climate factors of diversity/difference per year.

Strategies

1. Create and promote events on each campus around diversity and inclusion efforts at least once/year
2. Recognize faculty/staff/student’s efforts to promote and further D & I efforts
 

MRJCON Goal 2

Support communities of students, faculty, and staff with underrepresented identities.

Strategies
1. Recruit, retain, support, and graduate AI/AN students through the CO-OP program
2. Promote student awareness of available MSU D&I resources
3. Include CON and local D&I efforts in faculty/staff orientation

MSU Goal

Equip students, faculty, and staff with the knowledge, experience and competencies necessary to eradicate biases and discrimination and to be successful in a multicultural, international, pluralistic society.

MRJCON Goal 1

Faculty and staff will participate in at least one professional development activity on D&I annually.

Strategies
1. Offer faculty/staff D&I development opportunity annually
2. Complete Indian Education for All required for all staff and faculty to include annual evaluation

MRJCON Goal 2

Faculty will incorporate D&I concepts (e.g., biases & discrimination) into curriculum, pedagogy, and/or research.

Strategies
1. Incorporate D, E, & I into refreshed BSN and ABSN courses during AY21-22
2. Develop a statement of MSU and CON D&I activities for grant submissions
3. Infuse DEI related concepts into scholarship activities
4. Collaborate to develop a new educational program

MRJCON Goal 3

Student will demonstrate D&I competencies and achieve D&I related learning outcomes as described in designated courses to strive towards health equity.

Strategies
1. Develop evaluation forms on competencies reflecting on D, E, & I concepts
2. Create an opportunity for students to explore DEI concepts towards health equity

Recruit, promote the success of, and foster a sense of security and belonging for a diverse student body, faculty and staff.

MRJCON Goal 1

Recruit and retain diverse students. 

Strategies
1. Include D&I student recruitment goals into all HRSA grants as well as non-HRSA grants
2. Pilot Direct Admissions for BSN program
3. Develop holistic admissions across the CON programs

MRJCON Goal 2

Recruit and retain diverse faculty

Strategies
1. Promote pipeline of diverse faculty by presenting a nurse educator as a career option (e.g., AI/AN students at HOPE week [twice annually], etc.)
2. Ensure search committee members, hiring authorities, and other faculty promotion committee members complete implicit bias training

1. Participate monthly All-College staff meetings and annual staff development

1. Develop materials and support events that celebrate differences to increase security and belonging.

1. ADP reports to and consults with CON EC on a monthly basis; CDs and DAF share the report with members of each campus
