What is it?

MSU Today is an email that is sent out by University Communications three times a week to MSU faculty and staff.  If you have an event or announcement that you'd like to promote to this audience, getting your item in this e-newsletter is the best way to do it.  Items included in the MSU Today email are selected from the MSU Calendar of Events.  Note that MSU Today does not accept items of interest to students - those should be submitted to the MSU Calendar and will not be used in the email.

Promoting Events and Announcements

Items included in the MSU Today email are selected from the MSU Calendar of Events so you will need to submit your event to the calendar before it will appear in MSU Today.  Log in to the Calendar (it is part of our larger COPE publishing platform) with your NetID and NetID password. After logging in, note (in the upper-right portion of the page) that you can either "Create an Event" or "Create an MSU Today Announcement".  A few words on the differences between events and announcements:

  • Events:  Events are activities that will occur at a specified time and location.  Events include lectures, concerts, receptions, and exhibit openings that would be of interest to MSU faculty and staff.  If your item is an event please submit it by clicking "Create New Event."  It will appear in the MSU Calendar of Events and on MSU Today.
  • Announcements:  Announcements appear at the top of the MSU Today email and provide information that does not include a specified time and physical location.  Examples include upcoming deadlines, calls for nominations or volunteers and information about infrastructure work that will affect traffic or access to buildings.  Announcements can also include events that require an RSVP.  If your item is an announcement please submit it by clicking "Create MSU Today Announcement."
