The University of Montana Western engaged pre-service students, post-baccalaureate students, and partner teachers in high-quality PBE design experiences and unit implementation. Under the theme ‘Place and Displacement in the American West,’ our Spring work supported practicing teachers as they designed, implemented, and reflected on a PBE-based unit for Montana students in grades 5-12. In Fall 2023, we improved undergraduate course design around PBE implementation as well as conducted a second round of in-service and pre-service professional development culminating in a professional development trip to Cody, WY.

When teachers start learning about PBE, they consistently ask ‘what does this look like in practice?’ To help answer this question, all grant-funded unit design (including curricular materials) are available via our PBE Website: https://sites.google.com/view/pbe-in-montana/.
