Suicide Prevention with Active Minds

Active Minds is an organization that utilizes student voices to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses. Active Minds works to increase students’ awareness of mental health issues, provide information and resources regarding mental health, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as liaison between students and the mental health community. Through campus-wide events and national programs, Active Minds aims to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues and create a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health issues on campuses throughout North America.

We are proud to have an Active Minds chapter here at MSU. We are committed to carrying out the goals of Active Minds and have fun while doing so. We have created and participated in multiple events across campus such as “Stress Out Week,” “Send Silence Packing,” and “Bowling to Strike Out Stigma.” If you’re interested in joining our club, please email us for more information. It’s a great way to meet new people, get involved in the campus community, and promote Mental Health!

What is ProjectConnect?

ProjectConnect is an evidence-based, peer-facilitated program model designed to build connection and community. It is a 6-session program that can be offered in-person, or virtually. ProjectConnect helps students meet and get to know students outside of their social group, and build stronger community on campus. Students meet in groups of 4-6 over the course of six 1-hour sessions and engage in a series of thought-provoking questions and fun activities! Space is limited. Please fill out a student interest form if you are interested in joining a group.

Project Connect has been completed for Fall with 15 participants! We're taking requests for Spring, so submit your info in the link above if you're interested!

Become a Peer Facilitator

As a Peer Facilitator, you will participate in a facilitator training led by Counseling and Psychological Services Staff. Peer facilitators lead groups of 4-6 students through a sequence of engaging questions and fun activities that have been demonstrated to reduce loneliness, and build empathy, connection, and friendship. We are currently accepting applications for peer-facilitators! Fill out the facilitator interest form if you would like to learn more about being a Peer Facilitator.
