As of May 2022, the Office of Public Instruction released new Licensure Requirements for Teacher Licensure in the State of Montana under ARM Chapter 57.  The new licensure rules were effective immediately and change the process by which MSU, and other Universities and Colleges recommend students for licensure.  The new rules state a candidate for licensure must complete an approved program and show evidence of having a 3.0 or higher in their major, or successfully pass the Praxis, or obtain a passing score on a portfolio during student teaching.  At MSU the student teaching portfolio is the Reflective Educator Project.  In addition to the REP we strongly encourage students to complete the Praxis as part of their licensure journey. The Praxis is required for licensure in many states, especially states bordering Montana where many of our graduates have moved in the past several years.  It is advised to take a licensure exam, like the Praxis, as close to completion of coursework as possible.

Access score(s) via your Praxis® account free of charge.  View your scores by logging onto your Praxis® account and go to score report.  Your scores should be accessible in 30 days or less.  Print your score report immediately and keep for future reference.

From time to time, the Educational Testing Service® comes out with revised or new tests. The Montana Office of Public Instruction announces changes to this list. Passing scores on discontinued tests will still be accepted as part of a licensure application for up to one year. Beyond that year, candidates must take the new test.
