Senior and Alumni Surveys

During 1995, the Assessment and Outcomes Committee developed two surveys, one for graduating seniors and the other for recent alumni. The surveys were kept brief so they could be sent on one duplexed page. Questions were designed to reflect MSU-Bozeman's core curriculum objectives and services offered at the University as well as elicit students' opinions on particular issues. The surveys share some common elements so that responses of seniors and alumni can be compared.
Colleges mail the senior survey to students in their programs as part of a packet of materials about graduation. Some colleges include a sheet of supplemental questions to collect information specific to their programs. Alumni surveys are sent from the President's Office to students who graduated four years previously, with the hope that a four-year interval is long enough to give alumni some perspective on their University experiences and short enough to make their comments relevant to current programs.
The surveys are a low-budget effort consisting of one mailing and no follow-up. After five years of collecting data and analyzing the results, the Assessment and Outcomes committee will decide whether to continue the current strategy or modify the survey effort.
