Upgrade your MT license to a C3 Principal or add a Superintendant Endorsement
A.) If you have a C1 or 2 license, you need to apply for a C3 license
B.) If you already have a C3 License, you need to apply for an Administrative Endorsement
C.) Your application cannot be completed until your degree/certificate has been conferred. Please check DegreeWorks before beginning the process.
- Complete the appropriate application on teachmontana.com
- Complete this form to request your University Recommendation
- The Licensing Tech will send you an email confirming the recommendation is complete
- Log in to OPI to pay your application fee
Additional Notes:
- You must have at least 3 years of teaching experience to receive your Principal License
- You must have at least 1 year of experience as a principal to receive your Superintendent Endorsement
- Your Montana experience can be documented directly on OPI
- Your out of state experience will require a form that you can download from OPI
Questions about Licensure
- My district wants me to serve as a principle/superintendent while getting my Class
3 license.
- If you have more than 3 years of teaching experience, you can apply for an internship (renewable each year up to 3 years) so you can take the position while taking classes. Classes are 80% online with one or two weeks of face to face instruction during the summer. Applications are due in early spring. Contact Dr. Jason Cummings for more information and to start the process. You can also contact the Field Placement Office or OPI for more information about the internship.
- I completed my MEd Degree, but I don't have three years of teaching experience.
- We cannot recommend you for a C3 license until three years of teaching experience have been documented.
- If you have a contract offer, please contact OPI for your options. The school that has offered you the position will have to help you in this case.
- I completed my Principal and Superintendent Certificates simultaneously but I do not
have the one year's experience as a Principal. Can I take the Superintendent's job
that I have been offered?
