How Can Students be Engaged on Campus?

One fun, easy thing that staff, faculty and all students (undergrads and grads – not restricted to Freshmen) can do RIGHT NOW is participate in the Photo Mosaic (substituting for the M Photo this year for broader participation online). Here are the details: https://montanastate.campuslabs.com/engage/event/6156742

Events, Activities, and Programs

Please encourage your students, staff, and faculty to follow OSE on social media to get up to the minute details about engagement opportunities:

MSU Debut will have blended options (both in person and online) this year. Check out the calendar of fun events: http://www.montana.edu/msudebut/

The Programs Activities and Campus Entertainment Board (PACE) will be creating both in person and online opportunities for student events, activities, and entertainment. Use social media, the OSE website, or CatsConnect events (see below for links)

Encourage students to use CatsConnect – they can search all of the events hosted by OSE, student orgs, and events from other campus offices too  https://montanastate.campuslabs.com/engage/events (you can even filter by options like “free food” or “service”)

Our Student Engagement Global Ambassadors (SEGAs) will be happy to meet with individuals or groups to help students explore and identify options that are available for them to get involved. https://www.montana.edu/engagement/sega/index.html

Student Organizations (clubs)

Catapalooza will be hosted online this year in a really fun format called “flip grid”. Check out this link for details: https://www.montana.edu/catapalooza/

We are encouraging student organizations (clubs) to meet both in person and online, as it suits their needs, following the county health social distancing guidelines. For most clubs, things will proceed as usual (reregister your club, apply for funding, meet as small/safe groups, etc.) Venues on campus will be harder to find because ballrooms are booked for classes and small meeting rooms fill up quickly. Personally, I would encourage clubs to host events outside when possible and look for off possible off-campus venues to host activities. Here is a guide to help clubs during COVID https://www.montana.edu/engagement/organizations/onlineclubresources.html

For major events like the Student Organization Leadership Conference we will be converting that to an online forum. CatsConnect will have all the details and/or you can talk with Randi Maiers [email protected] for more info. https://montanastate.campuslabs.com/engage/

ASMSU

Student government intends to meet in a “blended” style (WebEx and SUB 235) every Thursday at 6:00pm during the academic semester, starting August 27th. To schedule to present to senate, contact Morgan at [email protected] to request a day/time. For more information about ASMSU governing documents, our initiatives, etc. please click this link: http://www.montana.edu/asmsu/

There is currently an “At-Large” Senator (representing everyone, not a specific college) and Supreme Court Justice positions open in ASMSU. Students taking more than 7 credits with a GPA over 2.0 can see the job descriptions and fill out the volunteer application here https://www.montana.edu/engagement/employment.html
