Acute Care Appointments

Description
- Acute care provides appointments for illness or injury which is less than 2 weeks old.
- Typically, an acute care clinic visit will address a single acute issue
- Appointments must be made the day of the visit.
- There is more availability earlier in the day, so contact us as early as possible to get scheduled.
- Student Health Services is unable to see work related injuries.

Cost
- No cost for the visit if you have paid the student health fee for the semester.
- Costs apply for any labs, x-rays, other testing, or prescriptions.
Continuity Care Appointments

Description
- The continuity care clinic is similar to that of your family health care provider.
- Students are encouraged to establish a regular Student Health Services provider for management of ongoing health issues.
- Established patients may be seen for a recent illness or injury in the acute care clinic or with their primary care provider depending on openings.

Cost

Clinical Laboratory
Description
- Student Health Services has a clinical laboratory available to students who have paid the health service fee. The laboratory conducts most common testing in-house. Tests not performed at MSU are sent to a reference lab.

Cost
- There is a fee for all lab tests.
- Cost for labs depends on which tests are conducted
Additional Details
- Tests for ABO/Rh (bloodtype) and rubella do not require a clinician's order.
- Tests for most other conditions, including HIV, require a clinician's order.
- Orders may be taken from health care providers outside the Student Health Services.

X-Ray
Description
- A registered technologist is available on weekdays when Student Health Services is open, except during lunch.
- X-ray services are provided at a minimal cost with all digital images interpreted by a radiologist.
- X-rays are available for chest, spine, abdomen and extremities.
- Mammograms, fluoroscopy, MRIs and CT-Scans are not offered.

Cost
- Cost depends on number and type of x-rays done. You may discuss with the provider before x-ray is taken.
Vaccinations & Injections

Description
- Appointment required. There may be availability in the acute care clinic.
- Some immunizations require a prescription from a medical provider or may need to be order into the pharmacy. Please call to discuss scheduling.
- Students should contact their primary care provider or schedule an appointment with a nurse in the acute care clinic to discuss immunization needs.
- Students who need vaccinations for international travel should make an appointment with the travel clinic to discuss recommendations based on their travel plans.

We do not perform injections for allergy desensitization. Please check with a local allergist for this service.

- Cost depends on which vaccine is given.
- Student Health Services does not bill insurance directly for most vaccines. Please contact your insurance company to verify that you can submit a self-billed claim before receiving your immunization.
